Sunglasses originated in China during the 1100s and in Rome around the second century AD. During the 19th century, syphilis sufferers often wore them due to light sensitivity, but sunglasses didn’t catch on until Hollywood stars began wearing them in the 1920s.
Sam Foster was the first to mass produce and sell affordable sunglass in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1929.
